DUNCAN

We rescued Egg and his brother Duncan about two years ago after a kind person reached out to us. She told us about two goats who had been purchased for someone’s teenager, only to be abandoned when the teen moved out. Their parents, unprepared to care for goats, had no proper shelter or fencing, leaving Duncan and Egg extremely skinny and tied to a fence to keep them from wandering the neighborhood. They were living in a makeshift shack made of wooden pallets, with little protection from the elements.

When we brought them to the sanctuary, we quickly learned just how high goats can jump! They wasted no time testing our fencing, so we reinforced it with proper goat-proof barriers and built them a safe, comfortable shelter where they could finally relax and thrive.

At first, both boys were a little shy, but it didn’t take long for their personalities to shine. Egg is the quieter and sweeter of the two—gentle, affectionate, and always up for chin scratches (especially if treats are involved). Duncan, on the other hand, is the farm clown. He’s always getting into something—whether it’s sneaking into feed bins, munching on trees, or stirring up mischief. But he also loves to play with the sheep in our communal pasture, especially on sunny days.

Duncan is our class clown. He is always getting into things, causing a ruckus, finding cookies in secret places, eating our gloves, opening packages, rubbing his horns on anything that strikes his fancy, and everyone’s favorite - pee’ing on our volunteers that he likes.

As our first goats, Egg and Duncan have taught us so much—about resilience, about joy, and about just how much laughter (and occasional chaos) a pair of mischievous goats can bring.
