MARCELLO
Moose and Marcello were just piglets when they showed up at a kind-hearted woman’s warehouse job one day. A local farmer was offering them for free—to be someone’s dinner. Unable to bear the thought of these babies being slaughtered, she took them home, but she had nowhere safe to keep them. Desperate to find them sanctuary, she reached out to our friends at Wildlings Forest for help.
Wildlings took them in as fosters, ensuring they received the veterinary care they needed, including neutering. Once they had healed, we coordinated their journey to Rewild Refuge, where they would finally have a forever home.
In February 2023, these two adorable boys arrived at Rewild. We named Marcello in honor of one of our incredible donors, Marcella, who had recently passed away from cancer. Marcella loved pigs, and to celebrate her passion for animals, we gave Marcello her namesake.
Lovingly nicknamed the “M&M’s,” Moose and Marcello are full of personality. They have the longest eyelashes, the sweetest smiles, and absolutely love being tucked into their cozy beds each night. Moose, especially, is a water-lover—on warm days, you’ll find him happily splashing around. They’ve also made fast friends with the sheep and can often be found sneaking bites of hay with them.
These two were destined for a heartbreaking fate, but thanks to the kindness of strangers and the power of rescue, they now live safe, happy, and loved. We’re so grateful to Wildlings Forest for stepping in and helping these boys find their way home.
Although Moose and his brother Marcello look similar, they do have differences! Moose is smaller than Marcello, and more solid brown, where as Marcello has lots of brown spots under his hair. Moose tends to be a bit more shy than his brother, but if you have treats, all bets are off. Moose often loves to open his mouth as wide as he can in hopes that someone will drop a treat into his mouth!
