PHOEBE

Phoebe arrived at Rewild Refuge in the summer of 2022 at 13 years old. She had been rescued from a cruel traveling children’s pony ride business by another sanctuary, along with her best friend, another mini horse. Tragically, her companion passed away from laminitis, leaving Phoebe as the only equine at the small sanctuary. Knowing how social horses are, the sanctuary owner reached out to us, hoping to give Phoebe a better life surrounded by other equines.

Mini horse mares are known for their big personalities—spirited, intelligent, and independent. They form deep bonds with their caretakers and herd mates, but they can also be strong-willed and, at times, a little stubborn—especially when they sense inconsistency. Phoebe is the perfect example of this!

She has no problem voicing her opinions, is highly food-motivated, and has a special talent for sneaking out of fences in search of fresh spring grass. These days, you’ll often find her by the side of her best friend, Paloma, or showing off her signature flowing mane. At Rewild Refuge, Phoebe finally gets to live life on her terms—free from exploitation, surrounded by friends, and, most importantly, always well-fed!
