sadie
Sadie & Stewie came from one of the largest pig hoarding cases in recent history—over 300 pigs struggling to survive in Bakersfield, CA. In a massive collaborative effort, multiple rescues and sanctuaries worked together to save 100 of these pigs and bring them to safety. Among them was a pregnant pig named Mamma Doo, who gave birth to 12 piglets after her rescue. That’s where Sadie & Stewie’s journey to Rewild began!
At just 8 weeks old, these two tiny piglets made their way to Rewild Refuge, quickly stealing our hearts with their playful antics and adorable personalities. Sadie became known for her impossibly chubby cheeks, while Stewie won everyone over with his soulful, gentle eyes.
Now full-grown Vietnamese potbelly pigs weighing in at nearly 150 pounds, Sadie & Stewie have settled into sanctuary life beautifully. Though naturally a bit shy, they are sweet and affectionate with those they trust. Sadie, in particular, has a quiet, gentle nature that balances out some of the more mischievous pigs in the herd. On warm summer days, you’ll often find her lounging in the pig pool or hilariously tucking herself under the goats’ dog beds to escape the sun.
We are so grateful that these two landed at Rewild Refuge, where they will live out their days in peace, safety, and love.
